We talked a bit about New Year’s resolutions last week, specifically redecorating. This week we’re going to talk about another resolution you — along with many others — probably have: saving money.
How, you might ask, can you save money and redecorate at the same time? It’s not as hard as you might think. Check it out:
1. Create a fixed budget. Allocate certain amounts for certain projects, and stick to those amounts. The challenge should force you to make more fun and interesting decisions.
2. Scour your home for things you can recycle. Bedsheets, for example, can easily be converted into curtains or a tablecloth, and you can decorate old shoeboxes to use as containers.
3. Take one space at a time. If you work on one section of a room at a time the process will seem far less daunting. Reorganize your collection of DVDs and CDs (and make cute storage units for them, say… out of shoeboxes?)
4. Remember that sometimes the simplest things make the most difference. Just adding some new, colorful throw pillows can completely turn your living room around and make it feel like a whole new room.
Redecorating your home doesn’t have to be costly. Check out the interior design magazine Interior New York for furniture trends and ideas that you can tailor to your budget, and you’ll be on your way to a beautiful home in no time.
